I am hoping that together we can send a message that diversity is a strength and not a weakness. To that end, I would ask you to send an email to
Jackie Maxwell
jmaxwell@shawfest.com
Or the public relations department
odette@shawfest.com
Or the Human resources department
dlg@shawfest.com
The email doesn’t have to be elaborate. You can even simply put the words ‘Share the Stage.’ in the headline. Try to use constructive words of encouragement and offer possible solutions. Again, this is nothing personal, we all want to see the Festival succeed in opening its doors to the great talent we have here in the diverse community in Canada.
And…
If you would like to become a member of Share then please send an email to Andrew Moodie at:
sharethestage@gmail.com
Hopefully together we can find solutions.
Andrew
I am disturbed that this campaign focuses soley on Shaw. There are many stages throughout our country where POCs are under represented.
Out west one sees A LOT of paleness on stage too. I’d like to see myself (and other POCs) reflected on the stages of this country, in addition to sharing it.
I would like to encourage you to move beyond your one personal experience with one company and to provide contacts on this page for other companies or organizations.
If it’s all about Shaw, I have less interested in expending energy while continuing to be entirely supportive of your efforts.
Strength and energy to you.

Very good point. And it’s something that has been brought up by more than one person.
I would really like to see an effort to communicate with many theatres about diversity in a constructive manner, but I’ve got art to create. I’m focusing on Shaw because of a personal experience I’ve had with them, but also because I’ve got two commissioned plays and a screenplay to write.
I need help.
If you’re interested in going beyond the Shaw festival, then send an email to sharethestage@gmail.com
Or leave a comment here with your email address. And we’ll see how we can move the discussion forward.
